He was only four months old when he and his sister were found, somehow surviving the cold, hunger, and isolation on their own. We still don’t know how they made it through, but their resilience was nothing short of incredible. When Badger arrived at the rescue, he seemed surprisingly cheerful in his kennel. But the moment I took him out, the truth came flooding in, literally. He tried to bolt, trembling and peeing from fear. He was terrified of human contact, unable to make eye contact, and would curl up in corners just to feel invisible. Whatever trust he might’ve had in people had been broken before we met. But healing doesn’t happen alone. Our own dog Duke played a huge role in bringing Badger out of his shell. Slowly, Badger started to feel safe. He learned to play. He learned to walk without fear. He even discovered the joy of water and the comfort of cuddles. Over three beautiful months, he became part of our family, and we watched him transform into the happy, goofy, loving boy he was always meant to be. Letting Badger go wasn’t easy, he’d carved out a special place in our hearts. But then, something amazing happened. A family member from Manitoba saw his photos, fell completely in love, and made the long drive to bring him home. Now Badger has a forever family of his own.
