Harley was beautiful, majestic, and incredibly smart. But his past was anything but kind. We began with only fostering puppies, but we decided to take this guy home and we are so glad we did. At first, we didn’t know much about Harley’s history. That changed when a woman reached out, explaining she had once lived next to his original owner. As a young pup, Harley was left outside alone and/or locked in a garage without food or water multiple times and for days at a time. He was picked up by animal control four times before his owner finally decided not to reclaim him. Knowing what he endured broke our hearts and explained the deep separation anxiety he struggled with. It took time, patience, and love to help him start to feel safe again. But beneath the trauma was an incredible dog: loyal, intelligent, and full of heart. He wanted so badly to be loved, and once he trusted you, he gave his whole heart in return. Harley’s story has a happy ending. He was adopted by a wonderful family who had another German Shepherd for him to bond with. He’s now living the life he always deserved. Safe, loved, and never alone again.
